The first advertised radio broadcast was transmitted from Brant Rock, Massachusetts, on Christmas Eve of 1906 by Professor Reginald Aubrey Fessenden. But the first radio station with a regular broadcasting schedule KDKA of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania—did not come on the scene until 1920.

Today, there are more than 4,370 AM stations and 2,350 FM stations broadcasting in the United States.
